Call for Papers - BLA 11th Annual Conference 2019

BLA 11th Annual Conference invites paper and poster proposals for its Conference to be held on 5 - 9 August in Gaborone. The BLA Annual Conference is the premier national forum for information professionals to dialogue on positioning the Library and Information profession high on the global development agenda. Subthemes 1. LIS Education in Developing Countries: Challenges and Trends 2. Data and School Libraries 3. Information Literacy in Context: Research Informing Practice and Practice Informing Research 4. The status of librarians in different societies – the impact on their role as teachers of information literacy and possible strategies for being effective information literacy educators 5. Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning : Virtual learning methods 6. Libraries: dialogue for change – how library publishing can act as a dialogue for change 7. The migration of books: cultural heritage (objects) and ideas on the move 8. Internet of things 9. Open Data/Open Access in the African context 10. Institutional Repository as a platform for Open Access 11. Long term digital preservation 12. Transformations in research as a result of the data revolution; 13. A global and inclusive society 14. Partnership, collaboration across professions 15. The role of libraries in society and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Proposals for presentations at the Conference maybe in the form of: ● Professional presentations (20 minutes each, followed by a 10 minutes’ discussion) on a topic related to the theme of the conference, which represent descriptions of programs, projects, activities, and/or innovations that are of relevance to a diverse audience and contribute to their professional development. ● Research presentations (20 minutes each, followed by a 10 minutes discussion) on a topic related to the theme of the conference, which represent findings from investigations (either complete or in-progress, but not proposals) that would be of interest to a national audience. ● Posters (a designated time will be set for presenters to display and meet viewers) of projects or research on a topic related to the theme of the conference. The posters can be in the form of pictorial display, text or graphics. • Lightning talks (6minutes each) aimed at igniting lively discussions among the audience: share your stories, thoughts, images, films and experiments with us! The talks may include PowerPoint presentations (but it’s not a must!), a short movie, a slam poem, a sketch, or an intriguing dialogue on the stage. We welcome all innovative and outside-the-box approaches as long as they fit in 6 minutes Proposals should be on the theme and sub-themes. The conference aims to be inclusive and reach out to a broad range of audiences representing various stakeholders and different types of libraries and information service institutions. As such the theme should be interpreted broadly. Exhibitors P3500.00 Abstracts should be submitted per email submissions to jibrill@ub.ac.bw or president@bla.org.bw Abstracts must be sent to the above addresses as e-mail attachment (electronic) and should not be more than 250 words. Abstracts should include the name and affiliation of the proposer, a precise summary of the proposed paper, and confirmation that if shortlisted the speaker will be able to attend BLA conference. Abstracts should be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.
